While in Port McNeill I was studying the chart looking for my next anchorage and I saw Cullen Harbour and Booker Lagoon. With a good weather forecast I made the 3.5 hour run back across Queen Charlotte Strait. Arriving I was pleased to see only a three other boats which left lots of room. I picked the back corner and tucked Kinetics in. Cullen Harbour is pretty to look at and reasonably sheltered from winds off the Strait. Some swell did make its way in one day but it wasn't terrible. The days were overcast and I had to run the engine some to charge the batteries. Most of the traffic were larger power boats that came and went; some of them continued into Booker Lagoon via the narrow passage that leads from the back of Cullen Harbour.
Eventually the crowds drove me out. A large powerboat dropped anchor right next to me despite there being lots of room left in the harbor. Then his buddy boat showed up and rafted on. At times we would swing around so I could have a conversation with them stern to stern! I know I sound like a bit grumpy but I do come up here to get away from the city and the crowds of Seattle. Everyone has different desires and we all are here to enjoy this beautiful place. Just in different ways.
It was time to move on. I decided to give Booker Lagoon a try. I had no idea what I would find but hoped the narrow passage would scare off some of the less daring. I waited for slack, hauled up my anchor, said adios amigos and headed out.
