Just north of Mound Island in the Broughton group is Madrona Island which is east of the more well known Berry Island. Berry Island has a high end (for these parts) resort on the west side. The anchorage on the east end and around Madrona is not as popular. In part because of the amount of kelp and several reports about poor holding. However, with careful positioning, I found holding to be just fine. I was anchored near the base of a sheer cliff which made a great backdrop. There is a bit of current which kept the water cleaner than many places I visited up here and it is exposed to some NW winds. However, it was always calm overnight and the views were frequently excellent. At least when it wasn't foggy but that is expected in August.
I saw very few boats while here. One night there were two sailboats anchored up close to Berry Island and they were gone the next morning. Occasionally a boat could be seen in the passage to the south. The birdlife was good, small fry were active in the water but I saw little else here. It was simply a nice, peaceful place to be for a few days.
